Tronified!

Tron - Legacy rocks.
With that out of the way, I can probably say that there are definitely some plot holes and small losses of logistical thinking along the way.  Truly, I don't really care about those problems.  Viewers are given a Wizard of Oz-esque view into the Grid of this magical cyberland through the use of 2D at the beginning of the movie in the 'real world' and the use of 3D while in cyberspace.  The computer world is more magical than technical, with an all powerful master of the world, an ousted wizard like figure, the chosen hero and a princess with a destiny involved.  There's also plenty of glowing weapons and symbiotic mounts that can fly and explode quite prettily.  I would definitely classify this as a fantasy movie rather than sci fi.
This movie gets a 9 out of 10.
It loses points for a rather strange middle area and why there's a bar in a cyberland.

Lunar Eclipse on Winter Solstice

An event that only occurs every four hundred years could be witnessed last night if you drank enough espresso -  http://vimeo.com/18046748.
Happy Winter Solstice!

Skateboard?
Check.
Ragged sweatpants?
Check.
Skateboard and typical accent to go with it?
Double check.
Don't get me wrong.  I love Mondo Gecko.
It's just... he's the Keanu Reeves of TMNT characters.

Dude.

P.S. I took way too long making this for the end result.

Princess Leia

"Aren't you a little short to be a Storm Trooper?"
Its been 20 years since I first watched Star Wars: A New Hope, and its affect upon my general existence cannot be taken too lightly.  One of the first truly successful science fiction movies, it was a space opera of massive proportions. The twist on the role of the Princess exemplified the role that women could be in power, take command and be beautiful while they do it.
George Lucas may have made some terrible choices at later dates regarding characters in the Star Wars universe, but he did all right with Her Highness.

"F" is for Foot Soldier

I know that the Foot Ninjas are cooler and edgier, but for me as a child of the 80s, I remember the Foot Soldiers much more fondly.  They're dumb, come in large groups, fragile, and they explode at the drop of a hat.  That was always cool. Yay, for exploding robots!

Maria Bamford is Awesome!

Maria Bamford is tremendously funny and deserves recognition for her comedic work! This is one sea monkey that shouts huzzah!

"Because I'm Batman." T-Shirt Idea.

Commissioner Gordon
"Batman, why are you arresting this man?"

Batman
"Well Commissioner, I could explain for the next 20 minutes the thorough investigation I've done in researching this man's background, the scene of the crime, and the finding the weapon involved.  But instead I shall merely tell you this: You will arrest this man because I'm BATMAN."

Commissioner Gordon
"Good enough for me."

Rest In Peace Leslie!

Leslie Nielsen died on Sunday.
This was a gentlemen who continued the strong line of straight man Canadian humour that is woefully not as prevalent in today's society as the world needs.  I watched Airplane when I was twelve and didn't understand nearly enough of the jokes, but it was funny enough to make an impact in my life, along with the Naked Gun series.  I envy a man who can do what he loves his entire life and suddenly hit his stride when most people's lives would be slowing down.
The best part of Nielsen's style is the fact that he is hilarious by not being funny but merely delivering his lines in a particular way.  Leslie Nielsen will be remembered and he will be missed for his art and humour.

"B" is for Bebop!

This big brute is one of my favourites from the old series.  He was big and tough, and couldn't shoot worth anything.

Reading, Not Sleeping

My wife decided that staying up and finishing a book at 4:30 in the morning was the wisest choice of action.  I have pulled all nighters in my life before, but sometimes you should just put the book down...

'D' is For Donatello.

Domestic Dunder-headedness: Race to Witch Mountain

As thought by the execs involved in creating this movie in Disney:
"Hey let's remake the Witch Mountain movies, but better!"
"Yeah, we can add CG effects, and explosions and stuff."
"Let's make the kids beautiful, but expressionless.  That way they'll look alien. And make their powers more... powerful."
"But then the Grandfather needs to go, let's make him someone with a lot of expression too."
"Let's get Dwayne Johnson. He does that one expression.  He'll be great."
"Yeah, and he's got muscles.  He'll need someone to fight, so let's throw in some faceless MIBs, and someone really tough.... a big alien assassin! That'll show how tough he is!"
"But he needs to be approachable too... let's give him a sexy, super scientist to talk to.  That way she can explain everything that Dwayne can't."
"And let's throw them into a sci-fi convention in Las Vegas.  It'll be really funny."
"There. And just so people can connect with the old movie, we'll keep the name the same."

Genius!

Out of a possible score of 10 drunken barrel monkeys I give this an 6.  They weren't drunk enough to take this movie to the level of bad to make it good again, and they were toasted enough to think this was a good idea in the first place.  All they got out of this production was a mild headache and an ugly wench's phone number.

Steampunked Blowing Up Awesome!

New Zealanders are crazy geniuses!
If golf was this much fun to play, I'd become a professional.

Pixar is storytelling incarnate and Woody its 'poster child."  I love this company.

Joke that I heard on the Daily Show...

A man is getting ready for bed because its late, when there is a knock at the door.
And he goes to the door, opens it, and there is this snail.  The snail says, " I'd like to talk to you about some magazine subscriptions."  And the man is furious that he's been interrupted that he rears back, kicks the snail as hard as he can and slams the door shut.
Two years later...
The man hears a knock at the door and he answers it and its the snail.  The snail says "What the f#@k is that all about?"

15 Minute Sketch

Wonder Woman
Big fan of the Wonder Woman design.  Tough, beautiful and independent to the point of stubbornness. Loved the Bruce Timm version and the attraction between her and Batman.

Maiden Voyage

Welcome to the Nautical Monkey Project.  My name is Patrick O'Connor and this will be the home base of my ongoing artistic endeavors.  I hope those who view my page enjoy what they see and will communicate their thoughts and criticisms that I may improve towards my goal of being a professional graphic designer.
